WELCOME

Oceola Township is centrally located in Livingston County. The township contains substantial expanses of  farmland upon slightly rolling terrain. More than half of Thompson Lake is located in the southwest corner of  the township. Hundreds of residents located along the shore and visitors to the Howell City Park enjoy this scenic 262 acre, all sports lake.  The current estimated population of Oceola Township is 12,278 citizens.

   
 

Current Events

Park Stickers for Thompson Lake

Park stickers are available for Oceola Township residents to pick up. Each household is allowed two free stickers. If, as a resident, you need additional stickers you can purchase additional stickers at the Oceola Township Hall.

If you are unable to pick up your stickers during regular business hours and would like to go to the park/boat launch, you can get one sticker at the park entrance and pick up additional stickers at the Township Hall at a time convenient for you during regular business hours.

ROAD PROJECTS 2010

The Livingston County Road Commission will be performing maintenance on the following roads during the 2010 season. The Oceola Township road milleage will pay for the bulk of the projects and where funds have come from other sources that information is noted.

LATSON ROAD: M-59 to Clyde, Hot Mix Asphalt Resurfacing, LCRC receiving Bids June 15th, paving schedule TBD after Contractor is selected.

MUSSON ROAD: North of M-59, this project consists of regrading and laying a limestone surface. Tentatively scheduled for the last week of June or the 1st week of July.

FISHER ROAD: from Curdy to Barron, this project consists of regrading the week of June 14th and laying a limestone surface the week of the 21st. Oceola Township and Howell Township are collaberating on the funding of this project.

ARGENTINE ROAD: Hazard to Allen, Hot Mix Asphalt Resurfacing, LCRC receiving Bids June 15th, paving schedule TBD after Contractor is selected. As a result of Oceola Townships support to LCRC in recent years, the Livingston County Road Commission will pay 100% of the paving costs for Argentine Road, Hazard to Allen.

 

United States Census 2010: a Snapshot

What: The census is a count of everyone residing in the United States.

Who: All U.S. residents must be counted - people of all races and ethnic groups, both citizens and non-citizens.

When: Census Day is April 1, 2010. Questionnaire responses should represent the household as it exists on this day. More detailed socioeconomic information will be collecetd annually from a small percentage of the population through the American Community survey.

Why: The U.S. constitution requires a national census once every 10 years. The census will show state population counts and determine representation in the U.S. House of Representatives.

How: Census questionnaires will be delivered or mailed to households via U.S. mail in March 2010; many households will receive a replacement questionnaire in early April. Census workers also will visit households that do not return questionnaires.

Every year, the federal government can allocate more than $300 billion to states and communities based, in part, on census data.

Census data are used to determine the need for additional social services, block grants and other grant programs essential to many comunities.

Census data inform a diverse range of local initiatives, from justifying the need for an after-school program to designating urban revitalization areas.

2010 Census Questionnaire: Quick, Easy and Confidential

With only 10 questions, the 2010 Census questionnaire is one of the shortest questionnaires in history and takes just 10 minutes to complete.

By law, the Census Bureau cannot share an individual's census questionnaire responses with anyone, including other federal agencies and law enforcement entities.

2010 Census Timeline: Key Dates

Fall 2008 - Recruitment begins for local census jobs for early census operations. 
Spring 2009 - Census employees go door-to-door to update address lists nationwide. 
Fall 2009 - Recruitment begins for census takers to support peak workload in 2010. 
February-March 2010 - Census questionnaires are mailed or delivered to households. 
April 1 2010 - Census Day 
May - July 2010 - Census takers visit households that did not return a questionnaire by mail. 
December 2010 - By law, Census Bureau delivers population counts to the president for apportionment. 
March 2011 - By law, Census Bureau completes delivery of redistricting data to states.

Dust Control for Oceola Township Roads

The Livingston County Road Commission administers the dust treatments in conjunction with the grading. Dust control improves the surface of the roads between grading and provides safer travel by suppressing the clouds of dust raised by vehicles.
