1. What is Absentee Voting?

Absentee Voting is voting by mail.  This provides a convenient method for casting a ballot when a voter is unable to, or chooses not to attend the polls on election day. 

2. What is an Absentee Ballot?

An Absentee Ballot is a ballot submitted by mail or in person to the township Clerk's Office in advance of an election by a voter.

3. I will be out of town or absent on election day, can I still vote?

Yes, you can still vote by Absentee Ballot if you will be out of town by doing any of the following;

• Call the Oceola Clerk's Office at 517-546-3259 
• Come to the Oceola Township Hall at 1577 Latson Rd. and request an Application to receive an Absentee Ballot. 
  
  Please Note: For an Absentee Ballot to be sent to a Temporary Address, the TEMPORARY ADDRESS section on the Absentee Application MUST BE FILLED OUT as Absentee Ballots are not able to be forwarded in the mail.

4. Who is eligible for an Absentee Ballot?

Due to the passage of the statewide ballot proposal 18-3 in November of 2020, all eligible and registered voters in Michigan may now request an absent voter ballot without providing a reason.

5. How do I apply for or request an Absentee Ballot?

You can request an application for an Absentee Ballot if you are already registered to vote and you are not a new voter to the state of Michigan by doing one of the following:

Request an Absentee Ballot in writing  to the Oceola Township Clerk's Office 

Calling the Oceola Township Clerk at 517-546-3259

Coming to the Oceola Township Clerk's Office located at 1557 North Latson Road, Howell Mi. 48843

If you are a first time voter or a new voter to the state of Michigan and you wish to request an Absentee Ballot you MUST:

Request an Absentee Ballot in person at the Oceola Township Clerk's Office located at 1557 North Laston Road Howell, MI 48843. 
Please bring with you a form of acceptable identification.

6. When can I request an Absentee Ballot?

You can request an Absentee Ballot up to 75 days before an election.  The latest you can receive your ballot will be the Saturday before an election.

You can request to be put on the Permanent Absentee Voter List anytime.

7. Can I automatically receive an Absentee Ballot for every election?

Oceola Township maintains a Permanent Absentee Application list.  If you would like to be placed on that list you may fill out a gray card and mail it to the Township Clerk or drop it off at the Oceola Township Clerk's Office located at 1577 N. Latson Road, Howell, MI 48843.  This will ensure you receive an Absentee Ballot Application for any upcoming election (You must complete and return the application in order to receive your Absentee Ballot.)

8. How can I return my Absentee Ballot?

You can return your Absentee Ballot by mail.

You can drop off your Absentee Ballot in person at Oceola Township Clerk's Office during office hours and extended election hours.  (Only an immediate family member, a person residing in the same household, or an assistant of the clerk may deliver your Absentee Ballot to the Clerk's Office.)

You may place your Absentee Ballot in our Oceola Township Hall Drop Box located at the front of the building anytime before election day.

9. When is the deadline to get an Absentee Ballot

The latest an Absentee Ballot can be mailed from the Clerk's Office is the Saturday before an election.  Because this date is close to the election you may wish to come to the Oceola Township Clerk's Office to cast your vote.  The Clerk's Office will be open for election business the Saturday before each election from 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.

10. When is the deadline to drop off my Absentee Ballot?

The deadline to drop off your Absentee Ballot is Election Day at the Oceola Township Hall Clerk's Office.  (Your Absentee Ballot must be dropped off at the Oceola Township Hall Clerk's Office, it can not be accepted in any of the voting precincts.)

Please keep in mind that it must reach the Absentee Counting Board by 8:00p.m., or it will not be counted.
